Welcome to the Ghana National  Oceanographic Data center

  Ghana became a member of the ODINAFRICA Project during the second phase (ODINAFRICA-II) of the project in the year 2000.The host institution for the  Project in Ghana is the Marine Fisheries Research Division (MFRD), Tema.

MFRD was established in 1962 as a technical assistance by FAO to the Ghana government. It was to research into marine fisheries and environment and advise the Ghana government on rational and sustainable exploitation of marine fisheries in Ghana. The Marine Fisheries research Division has three scientific sections of which the Oceanographic section is one

The Oceanographic Section  is the section handling the ODINAFRICA - 11 project . Under the  project, MFRD was designated as the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) or the Ghana Oceanographic Data Centre (GODC) and this takes care of both the Data and Information Centres

The formal inauguration of the Centre as a National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC) /Ghana Oceanographic Data Centre  took place in Accra on the 15th – 16th August 2002 at the first ODINAFRICA - 11 National Workshop in Ghana.

With well re-organized and computerized Information Centre and well trained Data and information Managers, the Ghana Oceanographic Data Centre is poised to develop and disseminate marine data and information products that respond to the needs of policy and decision makers, resource managers, researchers, scientists, educational institutions, NGO etc.
