Fisheries Biology, Fish Stocks and Statistics

The Fish Stocks and Statistics section undertakes the studies of fish and fisheries biology and ecology 

Activities of the section;

-          Fisheries statistics including fish effort and catch returns for the estimation of annual fish production from various fishing fleets. This also includes Canoe Frame Survey

-          Biological studies of commercially important fish species such as the sardinella and chub mackerel

-          Acoustic and Bottom Trawl surveys to assess the biomass of pelagic and demersal fish stocks

-           Observer Programme on board vessels to monitor their fishing activities
