The CSIR Water Research Institute is one of the 13 institutions of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). It was established in 1996 from the merger of the erstwhile Institute of Aquatic Biology and the Water Resources Research Institute, all of the CSIR. The 2 Institutes had been established earlier in 1965 and 1966 respectively.
Mission
To conduct research into water and related resources through the generation and provision of scientific information, strategies and services towards the rational development, utilisation and management of the water resources of Ghana in support of the socio–economic advancement of the country, especially in the agriculture, environment, health, industry, energy, transportation, education and tourism sectors.

The Department of Oceanography and Fisheries (DOF) was established in 1989 under the Faculty of Science of the University of Ghana. It runs undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (M.Phil and Ph.D) programmes in Fisheries Science, and in Oceanography. Members of staff serve in various capacities on several national and international governmental and non-governmental bodies such as the Guinea Current Large Marine Ecosystem project, the ODINAFRICA project of IOC-UNESCO, Friends of the Earth, the Ministry of Environment & Science and the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency. The Department annually plays host to staff and students of the University of Lagos, Nigeria and organizes field and laboratory training in rocky shore ecology as well as visits to the unique artisanal fishing sites along the coast of Ghana.

The RMA’s mission is to continuously develop the maritime industry in the sub-region and beyond, through capacity building of the highest international standard. The institution strives to achieve this by offering educational programmes relevant to modern trends and challenges of the maritime industry and related fields as well as ensuring the availability of all the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Standard of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW’95) mandatory training programmes.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established in 1973 as the Environmental Protection Council with policy-making and advisory functions. In 1994 it became the EPA under Act 490, EPA Act. It was transformed into a regulatory body with a mandate to initiate and implement programmes that would insure the maintenance of environmental integrity and also responsibility for initiating environmental legislation and ensuring that these laws are enforced.
Mission
The Mission of the EPA is to co-manage, protect and enhance the country’s environment in particular as well as seek common solutions to global environmental problems.

The Hydrological Services Department (HSD) - Ministry of Works and Housing was established as a Department on its own in 1995 when Architectural and Engineering Services Corporation (AESC) underwent restructuring to become a limited liability company. HSD before then existed as the Hydrology Division of AESC.
The Hydrological Services Department provides engineering services for the Government of Ghana in the areas of hydrology and water resources engineering.
